Chapter 16 - Atlantic Revolutions, Global Echoes 1750 - 1914

Chapter 16
Emily Hotchkiss

Throughout chapter 16 Strayers discuss the Atlantic Revolutions and the affects it has during this time period. Therefore, the Atlantic Revolutions that also occurred in North America, France, Haiti and Latin America took place on a larger global framework. The Atlantic Revolution was revolutionary in many ways; it spread the ideas of religious tolerance, equality and liberty. Another distinctive feature of the Atlantic Revolution was immense global impact it had on the world. Additionally, nationalism was discovered during this time and was used heavily in the coming countries. During the chapter Strayer then goes on to describe not only the global impact of the Atlantic Revolution but also how and where is occurred in specific places. In North America it occurred during 1775-1787 and was under the British rule during this time. Once the U.S broke away from the British rule they made a constitution that was put into practice and used for centuries to come. During this time the French, Haitian and Spanish Revolutions were occurring and changed the way that political matters were practiced and lived throughout these countries. Overall, the way the Strayer describes this chapter was very enlightening and entertaining.
